Detroit mother Maryanne Godboldo home was invaded by SWAT and her daughter captured because the mother had refused to give her child a prescription. The mother's defense is that she was protecting her 13-year-old daughter from unnecessary medication ordered by the state.
Doctors ordered that the 13 year old girl take Risperidone. Risperidone is used to treat the symptoms of and mania.
The side effects include in part anxiety, agitation, restlessness, confusion, faintness, unusual movements of your face or body that you cannot control and seizures.
According to the family's attorney the 13 year old girl was suffering from know side effects from immunizations and had no history of mania or schizophrenia.
In this case doctors prescribed a drug that who's know side effects can cause the symptoms that the girl was suffering. In other words doctors ordered a drug that is know to cause the same symptoms the child was already suffering. Also the family's attorney stated
Risperidone is not approved by the FDA for the use as prescribed by the doctors and has obtained a court order staying the administration of this drug.
Antipsychotic drugs are used to treat symptoms of psychiatric disorders such as schizophrenia and bipolar disorder. With the mother's statement that her child had no symtoms until after takeing immunazations and the girl was never diagagnosed as being schizophrenic or manic depressive these actions by the state appear to be a gross misuse of authority.
Child protective should not have the power to force parents to administer dangerous drugs to childern. Especially drugs that are not approved by the FDA for the use as prescribed by their doctors.
